On February 4th, 2026, four students from Mentor High School signed their letters of intent to continue their education and athletics at their respective future colleges. The outstanding students athletes included Michael Maynard, Gibril McLendon, Logan Mitchell, and Carson Wolk. These students have made a significant impact on their teams, and represent the best of the exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and dedication of Mentor High School Athletics.

Michael Maynard is a 3-year track and 4-year cross country varsity letter winner, 3-time all GCC, 3-time regional qualifier, 2-time state qualifier in cross country, 2025 All Ohio in cross country and News-Herald 1st team, 2025 state qualifier, and finished 4th in state in 4×800 giving him All Ohio status. He also is the GCC, district, and regional champion in the 4 x 800 relay, in which he holds the school and area record at 7:42. Off the track, Michael is a respectful and humble person despite his impressive accomplishments. Michael is committed to Malone University In Canton, Ohio. Best of luck, Michael, and keep up the fantastic work!

The next student, Gibril McLendon, is a standout player for the Mentor football team. His accolades include 2025 honorable mention all Ohio, 2025 2nd team all Northeast Ohio District, 2025 1st team all Greater Cleveland Conference, and 2025 3rd team all- News-Herald. Gibril also prioritizes his academics, appearing on the Honor Roll with a 2025 quarter GPA from 3-3.499. Gibril is committed to continue his academics & athletics at the collegiate level at Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio. Congratulations and nice work, Gibril!

The third signee was Logan Mitchell, an extremely talented athlete for the Mentor Cardinals football team, pursuing his future in education and athletics at Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio. Logan is a varsity letter winner, the Mentor Defensive Lineman of the Year, 2025 honorable mention all-Ohio, 2025 2nd team all-Northeast Ohio District, 2025 1st team all-Lake County, as well as 2025 2nd team all News-Herald. Off the field, Logan has achieved the highest level of the honor roll, managing a 3.8+ for his Senior school year. Logan is bound for success, and we all wish him the best of luck in his future!

Finally, our last signee was Carson Wolk, the Mentor Defensive Player of the Year for the Mentor Cardinals football team. His extremely impressive resumé includes other accolades such as varsity letter winner, 2025 2nd team all-Ohio, 2025 1st team all-Northeast Ohio District, 2025 1st team all-Greater Cleveland Conference, 2025 1st team all-Lake County, and 2025 1st team all-News Herald. Carson also is a high achiever in the classroom, achieving a 3-3.499 quarter GPA in 2025.
Of these athletes, Cardinal Nation had the opportunity to talk to Carson about his collegiate future.
Cardinal Nation: Why did you choose Lake Eerie College over others?
Carson: I chose LEC over other schools because it is closer to home and makes the most sense for me this year.
Cardinal Nation: Who has supported you most on this journey, and how?
Carson: My dad has been my biggest supporter throughout my football career by encouraging me, helping me improve, and providing the resources I need to succeed.
Cardinal Nation: What kept you motivated on the hard days?
Carson: On difficult days, my faith in God motivates me to keep going.
Cardinal Nation: If you could go back and talk to your freshman self, what advice would you give?
Carson: If I could give advice to my freshman self, it would be to put more effort into academics and strive for higher grades.
