Mentor High School has a yearly tradition of playing a fundraiser soccer game we call “Kick for the Cure.” Girls soccer coach Mr. Skilton explained that the games raise money for those who are battling cancer. He also informed me that past proceeds have gone to many recipients, including mentor teachers, students, parents, and their families! To raise this money, the teams organize 50/50 raffles, raffle baskets, and baked goods sales.

Coach Skilton says that the event, “gives our athletes the chance to play for something much bigger than themselves.” He explained that he loves how the athletes and parents come together in order to make it special, with fundraising, decorating, and spreading awareness, and emphasized the community support that happens at this game.
This tradition is an extremely important fundraiser that brings teams and the community together. Both the girls and boys teams play for something larger than a usual soccer game, learning and growing as both people and a team. We hope to see you at next year’s Kick for the Cure Game!
