Overview

Future Leaders Club boasts a wide range of both in school and out of school activity opportunities, with plenty to gain, like community service hours and hands on experience. In the past, the club has baked fresh cookies for the Mentor Firefighters Department, designed and hosted activities like candies for Spring Jokes, and spread positive Valentine’s decorations and messages throughout Mentor High School buildings. During the meetings, the club officers discuss future events with the club and decide on participation dates and times; some activities are also held through the meetings.

Past Events:

Here are some of the events Future Leaders have hosted in the previous years:

  • Adopt a Child Craft: members gathered after school and completed a craft activity to turn individual candy canes into reindeers.
  • Valentine’s Project: members hung up individual heart cards with handwritten positive messages on them around the school.
  • Bake Cookies: the club baked assortments of cookies and gifted them to the fire department to show great appreciation towards their hard work.
  • Leprechaun Hunt: after school, members secretly hid leprechaun themed decorations in the hallways and classrooms for the school hunt the next day.

How Could I Join?

Prospective members can join by going to the first informational meeting that occurs at the start of the fall semester. There, the students will be introduced to the club through a presentation and can choose to sign up for the club in-person. Students who attend the second meeting are then considered as officially registered members.

Note: Attending the first meeting does not bind you to committing to the club for the year.

Leadership Positions

Current positions in the club include the President, Vice President, and Secretary, which are known as officers.

The Different Roles in the Club

President: Leads the club through meetings and general announcements.

Vice President: Co-leads the club with the president, steps in when the President is unavailable.

Secretary: Documents all meetings and keeps records of schedules.

To run for the office, the only requirement is for you to be a member. During the third meeting, candidates present a short campaign to the club and then the members vote for their choice, and the results come out in that same meeting.

Schedules

The club meets up every other Friday from 7 a.m. to 7:15 a.m., and announcements are also made through Schoology as a reminder for members.

Some events are held after school, like cookie baking and next-day event planning.

Note: All officers attend private meetings with Mrs. Skouby, the club advisor, on Wednesday (7 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.) before meetings occur. This is when the officers discuss the agenda for the Friday meeting as well as proposals for upcoming events.
