Homecoming week starts this week at MHS–which means voting for your MHS Homecoming King and Queen ends this Wednesday, September 17th! To make your decision a little easier, Cardinal Nation was able to interview some of this year’s Homecoming Queen Court to ask them a little bit about their time at MHS.

Carolina Harris

Carolina’s favorite activity at MHS was being on the girls’ track and field and flag football teams. She plans to attend college to major in digital media marketing and move toward a career in social media management. She advises underclassmen not to be afraid “to join clubs, play sports, or put yourself out there—that’s how I met some of my best friends!”

Cardinal Nation: What activities are you involved in at MHS?

Carolina: Within MHS, I have been involved in the girls track and field program for four years now. I love long jumping and short sprints, and have met some of my best friends through the track program. Additionally, I have been a part of the uprising girls flag football team here at the high school for the past three years, and have had some of the coolest experiences being a part of that team! I am also a member of the National Honors Society, and love volunteering with my friends around the community!

Cardinal Nation: What is one of your favorite memories of MHS?

Carolina: One of my favorite memories at MHS has to be the opportunity to paint my senior parking spot. I loved getting to paint a Taylor Swift themed parking spot with my family, alongside all my friends around me.

Cardinal Nation: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up, and how has it changed since then to now?

Carolina: When I was younger I always wanted to be in the NFL or the NBA, until I got older and realized that it was a men’s league and I could not actually play in it. Due to that, I decided I would love to work alongside an NFL or NBA team in the world of social media marketing, still getting to be a part of the sports team, just maybe not on the field or court.

Cardinal Nation: What is your favorite movie of all time and why?

Carolina: My favorite movie of all time has to be “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.” I have been obsessed with Harry Potter since I was 7, and the movie is truly cinematic and emotional, always my go to comfort movie.

Cardinal Nation: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Carolina: If I could have any superpower it would probably be the power of teleportation. I would love to just teleport across the world to Greece if I was bored at home one night.

Cardinal Nation: What is your proudest accomplishment?

Carolina: My proudest accomplishment has got to be slowly getting college acceptance letters. It makes all the hard work I’ve done over the past 12 years of my life seem worth it, and I’m proud of the commitment and dedication I’ve held to my academics over the past couple of years.

Natalie Mitchell

Cheerleading was Natalie’s favorite activity during her time at MHS. After high school, she intends to attend college to major in chemistry or complete a pre-pharmacy program, aiming to become a pharmacist. Her advice for underclassmen is to “try your best in school and don’t slack off because it will catch up to you.”

Mara Sabo

During her time at MHS, Mara’s favorite activity was cheerleading. She hopes to attend college next fall to major in education with a minor in Spanish. Her advice is to “treat everyone with kindness, it will take you far.”

Cardinal Nation: What activities are you involved in at MHS?

Mara: I am involved in football and basketball cheer, lacrosse, NHS, and principal’s advisory.

Cardinal Nation: What is one of your favorite memories of MHS?

Mara: My favorite memory of MHS was cheering my first varsity game right after the tornado and we didn’t have school. It was exciting and I was so glad we were still able to play even though there was a lot going on and we weren’t sure if we were going to be able to play.

Cardinal Nation: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up, and how has it changed since then to now?

Mara: When I was younger I really wanted to be a chef and open a restaurant with my sister, however now I would love to be an elementary school teacher, which has always been an interest of mine.

Cardinal Nation: What is your favorite movie of all time and why?

Mara: My favorite movie of all time is “The Greatest Showman.” I grew up watching it and I love to sing along while I watch.

Cardinal Nation: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Mara: If I could have any superpower I would stop time because I have so many things to do and sometimes it feels like not enough time to do it.

Cardinal Nation: What is your proudest accomplishment?

Mara: My proudest accomplishment would have to be when I saved enough money to go to Spain for a few weeks, which has been my dream for many years.

Sophia Smalley

Sophia’s favorite activity at MHS was softball, which she intends to continue after high school at Cuyahoga Community College. She intends to major in early education to become a teacher. Sophia’s advice is to “live in the moment.”

Sophia: One of my favorite memories was sophomore homecoming.

Cardinal Nation: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up, and how has it changed since then to now?

Cardinal Nation: What is your favorite movie of all time and why?

Sophia: “Grown Ups;” it’s funny.

Cardinal Nation: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Sophia: I would be able to read minds.

Cardinal Nation: What is your proudest accomplishment?

Sophia: Being a good sister.

Molly Tenney

Some of Molly’s favorite activities during high school were Mentor’s marching band and fine arts program. After high school, she will be attending Ursuline College. She hopes to major in nursing on a CRNA track. Her advice for underclassmen is to “enjoy the season you are in, it goes by really fast.”

Cardinal Nation: What activities are you involved in at MHS?

Molly: I am currently apart of the Fighting Cardinal Marching Band as a Squad leader for the Alto Saxophones. I am also very involved in our fine arts program as a member of National Art Honors Society and am taking AP Fine Art 4. Additionally, I am a part of NHS as the Personal Relations Rep.

Cardinal Nation: What is one of your favorite memories of MHS?

Molly: One of my favorite memories I have made at MHS has been going down the science track with my best friend! I met Quinn Mooney my freshman year in Honors Bio 1/2, and every year since we have had honors and AP science courses together. We both love science a lot, and we have made countless memories with our favorite teacher Mrs. Roediger and now this year too with Mr. Butler in AP Bio. We have spent hours studying together, doing work together, and working with one another in class and it has most definitely been one of my favorite parts of high school. Quinn and I have gone to Starbucks, Panera, my house, and plenty of other places hanging out and studying and we have just made so many memories!

Cardinal Nation: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up, and how has it changed since then to now?

Molly: When I was younger, what I wanted to be when I grew up changed countless times. I dreamed of being an artist, owning a bakery, being a world traveler, and more. Now, while many of my dreams have carried over, they have changed completely. I plan on going to college to get my BSN and further my career to become a CRNA (nurse anesthetist). Using my career of being a CRNA, I hope to become a missionary and help kids around the world who can’t afford health care. I want to use my career to fund, organize, and attend many trips to locations such as Uganda and Thailand, and possibly partner with the organization Remember Nhu. I still have a love for being creative and traveling, but I have now found a path I am passionate about and that makes me excited for my future!

Cardinal Nation: What is your favorite movie of all time and why?

Molly: My favorite movie of all time is most definitely “Princess Diaries.” I love Anne Hathaway and her role as Mia Thermopolis. I love how Mia starts off a bit of a hot mess (like most of us haha), but over time and through her journey in the movie, she becomes so confident in who she is. She is creative and fun and doesn’t lose her identity.

Cardinal Nation: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Molly: I would most definitely want to have the ability to teleport. I feel like I am constantly running around, busy with many different activities, and would love to be able to teleport to where I need to be. I could also then easily visit places like Italy and Greece, where I dream of going!

Cardinal Nation: What is your proudest accomplishment?

Molly: Honestly, my most proudest accomplishment is that I was given the opportunity to preach this summer at my church. I attend Velocity Church in Richmond Heights, and my relationship with God is a huge part of my life. I am so loved by my church community and God, and a big goal of mine is to have the ability to show other people how loved they are by God, too. My youth pastor, Nate Diamond, first started teaching me how to write sermons for the camps we put on in the summer and fall about a year and a half ago. Once I got the hang of it, my pastor asked me to join their preach team, where once a year the team participated in a sermon series in the summer at church. So, for months, I worked on a message and got to give the sermon at church. It was such an amazing opportunity to experience just how much you can do with your words. It has inspired me to do the same throughout my future and career, sharing with people how loved they are.

Brooklyn Tonti

Brooklyn’s favorite activities at MHS include ceramics and cheerleading. She plans to attend college after high school, where she will be majoring in pharmaceutical sciences. Her advice is that “the best way out of the storm is straight through it!”

Cardinal Nation: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up, and how has it changed since then to now?

Olivia: When I was younger, I always wanted to be a famous author and write fiction novels. Now, I still have the same passion for writing, but I think I am focused more on a potential journalism or editorial career, or maybe even a career in higher education.

Cardinal Nation: What is your favorite movie of all time and why?

Olivia: My favorite movie of all time has to be “La La Land” because I love the actors, the music, and the storytelling. It is rare to find a movie that is compelling in all three of those aspects! I also appreciate how it has a realistic ending, even if it is not the way I wish it turned out.

Cardinal Nation: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Olivia: I would love to have telekinesis because I think it would be so useful to be able to move things with just my mind. It might even make me better at certain skills that I am not coordinated enough to do by hand!

Cardinal Nation: What is your proudest accomplishment?

Olivia: My proudest accomplishment would have to be when I received the English 9 Honors Department Award because I never felt like I stuck out enough to be noticed for something like that, so it felt very rewarding to be recognized for my efforts. Since then, I feel that I have been more confident in my abilities inside the classroom.
