Mr. Steve Couch, Advisor

Name: Brian Butler

Subjects: Biology

Cardinal Nation: How long have you been teaching?

Mr. Butler: 28 years

Cardinal Nation: Why did you become a teacher?

Mr. Butler: I became a science teacher because I was taking Bio 101 in college and had a terrible professor. I realized I enjoyed the material but she had no idea how to present the material and I thought I could do it better.

Cardinal Nation: What can you tell us about your family?

Mr. Butler: My wife of 26 years is a speech therapist and I have two kids in college.

Cardinal Nation: What are some of your hobbies?

Mr. Butler: 28Running, camping and traveling.

Cardinal Nation: What is your favorite story of you in high school?

Mr. Butler: After our 4 x 800 failed to qualify for the state meet, I assumed my track career was over. But with two laps left in the two-mile run I found a kick and moved up four spots to qualify for the state track meet. I also one day whacked my elbow into the fire alarm and the lever dropped down. Everyone was like ” you almost set it off” and my response was “this one must not work.”, so I pushed it all the way down and – well – it did work. A Triway High School mystery never solved.

Cardinal Nation: What are some of your obsessives?

Mr. Butler: I am a huge fan of Cleveland sports and I love to run. Everyday is better if i get a run in.

Cardinal Nation: What’s the best advice you’ve been given or that you can share?

Mr. Butler: As hurt or angry as you might be at someone, it is best to wait to respond.
