What is Google?
Google is an IT corporation with many different features. Google functions as a search engine and messaging center, while also providing services like cloud computing and other computer software, among others. Google is the place where everyone goes to find out news or answer random questions they have. However, Google is so much more than just a place to ask random questions. It is also a place to find interesting and amazing things from everywhere around the world. Google is simply massive. Countries from all seven of the world’s continents use Google and the programs that fall under Google’s domain. Google is used in 219 countries worldwide which makes it easy to find almost any answer in just a matter of seconds with its intelligent programming center.
What Does Google Have To Do With Your Everyday Life?
Google is used on every Chromebook and MacBook in Mentor High School on a daily, showing just how substantial the role Google plays in the lives of students. Ask yourself, where do students go to research? They go to Google because it is the largest, easiest, and most accessible search engine. Hey, you probably even found this article on Google!

Diving into how Google works, it is essential to understand that Google has full control over what gets on the first page. For example, much like when you search for a theoretical question like finding the winner of the Super Bowl, you get hundreds of people’s answers, but Google needs to filter through these results to provide the most relevant and helpful information.
Google’s first four answers could be one of two things. They are either the most clicked-on links or they are picked from your past Google searches for your specific personality. Such an algorithm makes web surfing on Google much better than other search engines, some of which lack such technology. Google is the center of information for most people, especially burning questions, but the horizon of Google is expanded when considering that using the sources provides an individual a place to put out their ideas on a website, allowing them to spread their opinions to a huge demographic of Internet users. Aspects like these are why you should consider Google as “America’s brain” because it is a platform that holds the knowledge and ideas of the planet, instantly accessible to hundreds of countries around the world, and the billions of users that make it up.
What Do You Have to Say?
Here is what students at Mentor High School think about Google and the implications it has on their day-to-day lives:
“I think Google is a very useful tool and I use it daily,” says freshman Emily Swigart.
“I like Google,” 10th grader Aleena Cook says. “I use it because it is easy, and if you google something then you can get a bunch of different resources from it, easy access to anything you need.”
“I think Google is one of the easiest search engines to use,” junior Ayesha Faruki says. “It’s especially helpful for my classes or when I’m curious about something.”
What are the Trending Searches?
According to Exploring Topics, these are the most popular searches globally on Google, just in the past month, and what I think the reason for the search might be:
1. What to watch?
Many people can get bored with what they are used to watching and just need something new. If you ask me, I would recommend Grey’s Anatomy or Criminal Minds but that’s just me, everyone likes something different.

2. When is Mother’s Day?
I think this shows how many people don’t know when the holidays are. I have asked this question many times before as I am also not good with dates, but it is always the second week of May if you ever wondered.
3. How many weeks in a year?
This is a question I ask as I never know how much time before the new year, so I understand where this one is from.
4. How many days until Christmas?
Christmas is a favorite day among many, so I understand why someone wants to start a countdown.
5. How to screenshot on Mac?
This is just a general question. A lot of people have MacBooks. Most likely students and teachers just to figure new things out ask this question the most.
6. What time is it?
I never know what time it is so I understand this question especially if you are trying to figure out what time it is somewhere else.
7. How many ounces in a gallon?
This is just a generic question. I would never be able to remember this conversion either. This is important especially when doing something that requires it. The answer to this is 128 ounces are in one gallon.
8. When is Easter 2025?
I love Easter! I even have a countdown to it starting at the beginning of every year. A lot of people forget dates so this is a very understandable question that is why it is asked right? Anyway, Easter is Sunday, April 20th.
9. How many ounces in a cup?
8 Ounces are in a cup. Conversations are easy once you can remember a couple.
