Following their long-awaited trip to Walt Disney World in Florida this past June, Mentor Top 25 wasted little time getting back into the swing of things by resuming rehearsals in mid-July. This year, Top 25 will be taking their audiences “Back to the ‘80’s” by performing classic hits such as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, Katrina & The Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine”, and Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose”.
Mentor Top 25 show choir was founded in 1965 by longtime Mentor High School choir director, Theodore Hieronymus. The group was formed with the intention of giving a select number of Mentor High’s top musicians and performers the opportunity to share their musical talents not only just within their community, but also with the world through various traveling performance opportunities. Today, Top 25 is still fulfilling this purpose. Auditions took place just prior to the end of last school year, and the 2022-2023 rendition of Mentor Top 25 was unveiled in late June. This years group is comprised of eight seniors, eight juniors, and ten underclassmen. This coming summer, Top 25 will continue its long tradition of sharing their talents with the world through a visit to Chicago, where they will perform at the famous Wrigley Field.
Cordelia Klammer, one of just two four-year seniors in the group, had this to say regarding her excitement for the year ahead, “Top 25 has without a doubt been the highlight of my high school journey thus far. This group has provided me with some of my fondest memories, and I am eager to conclude my tenure with Top 25 on a high note.”
Clearly, the group is extremely excited to carry on the rich legacy of the Top 25 show choir this year. Their hard work will finally lift off of the ground and onto a stage near you on October 22nd for the Perry Show Choir Festival. All are encouraged to attend and those who do are sure to be in for an excellent treat!
